Moving house can be one of the most stressful periods of your life. It is however, possible to move house relatively trouble free. The key lies in careful planning and being well prepared.
As soon as your solicitor confirms that the legal process is proceeding as planned and a completion date has been proposed you can start to make plans.
Step by Step Guide - General
- To start you must decide whether to use a professional or do it yourself
- If you decide to use a removal firm, get three or four quotations as costs vary greatly
- Check if the firm you select is a member of the British Association of Removers (BAR), as this ensures that the firm meets certain professional standards. If things go wrong then you have a channel for recourse. The BAR's website also provides other information that you might find useful
- When the estimator from the removal firm arrives, show him everything that has to be moved and the distance the goods have to be transported. This will avoid any nasty surprises such as a van not large enough to move all your possessions.
- It is best to consider undertaking your move mid-week if possible as this will avoid peak periods and may be cheaper
